FEATURED STORY
Mounting Opposition To Olmert's Surrender Agenda
Mounting Opposition To Olmert’s Last Minute Land Surrender Agenda

Political leaders from all sides of Israel’s political spectrum have condemned PM Olmert’s plans to finalize deals with the “Palestinians” and the Syrians in his final weeks of office. According to Israeli media sources, Olmert plans to draw up the final blueprints for an Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights as well as from most of Judea and Samaria, before resigning as party leader of the ruling Kadima party.

Police sources have indicated that they will be recommending to the state prosecutors office to draw up an indictment on at least three counts of corruption and fraud, in upcoming days. In a dramatic TV address to the nation last month Olmert already announced that he will resign immediately after a new party leader is elected, in a matter of weeks. Leftwing lawmaker Zahava Gallon of the extremist Meretz Party conceded that it would be immoral for Olmert to make these far-reaching decisions that affect the entire nation of Israel as he enters into final days of transition. Gallon said she was concerned that bringing a vote to the Knesset on expulsion of the Jewish residents from Judea and Samaria at this time will tarnish the important proposal to offer compensation to all “settlers” who would voluntarily leave their homes, and accused Olmert of trying to create a diversion to draw the focus away from the indictments tightening around his neck..Manny Mazuz, Israel’s Attorney General cautioned that such monumental national policy making decisions need to be handled delicately and not by a weak transition government on the eve of its demise.

Voice of Judea Commentary:

Olmert has no mandate to make such far-reaching and controversial concessions that imperil Israel. Olmert knows it and that is why he waited until the last minute, to take these suicidal steps. The Israeli left knows that such a proposal is doomed for failure and they have no interest in bringing it before a vote in the Knesset at this time. It is indeed sad that Olmert is resigning only as a result of public pressure due to corruption allegations and not for his betrayal of Eretz Yisrael. For man’s honor we protest but for God’s honor we remain silent?

It is essential that an authentic national referendum be held that would enable every Jew in Israel to exercise his/her right to vote against future plans of surrendering the Golan and Judea and Samaria. Past governments have rejected any efforts to allow the Jewish people to decide their own destiny on such critical issues. One activist who sponsored such a referendum was actually arrested, indicted and convicted of “incitement to racism” for suggesting an alternative Jewish proposal to counter the surrender route touted by most past Israeli governments. Yekutiel Ben Yaakov who awaits the hearing of an appeal against his conviction, said, “The last thing the Israeli government needs is for the average Israeli, who is opposed to the national surrender policies of his government to know that the government does not represent anything more than a tiny fringe minority and that the government lacks a mandate from the people.”

In March, Yekutiel Ben Yaakov was convicted of floating an independent referendum before the surrender of Gaza, and before the expulsion of the 10,000 Jews who lived there. In the referendum the 100,000 participants were asked to cast their votes and choose which “disengagement” they preferred: “The expulsion of the Jews or of the Arabs?” Ben Yaakov was sentenced to three hundred hours of community service and to a three month suspended prison term. Ben Yaakov’s appeal will be heard later this month in Jerusalem’s District Court (Sept. 25). Indeed, why is it not illegual for Olmert to plot the expulsion of Jews, yet considered incitement to propose the opposite Jewish alternative- to drive out the enemies of Israel?”
